That’s when I realized, I might be in over my head. I trip while jogging. How was I going to balance on two hands while being lifted?
But before I even had a chance to ask one more time when I was supposed to dip my knees, I was up and had done it.
However, as excited as I was, my next question was how do I get down?
As I slowly placed my feet back on the ground, like the great teammates they are, everyone cheered me on.
My next task was to be the base. This is the person who lifts and supports the person going into the air.
Although, I was quite confident in my base team, I felt a bit sorry for the girl who had to find confidence in me.
However, with a lot of help from coach Christine Schoenroth and the other base members, there were no bones broken and our flyer was lifted, held and placed back on the ground in one piece.
I don’t know about the team but I would say it was a cheerleading success story. I even walked away with a new perspective on being a cheerleader. One, it is a lot more than getting to wear super cute outfits. Two, you have to have a great relationship with your team and trust one another. Three, it is a sport.
You try lifting and throwing each other into the air over and over — it’s a workout.
On the other hand, scratch that last sentence, I think it’s better if everybody keeps their feet on the ground.
