The event will be held on Sept. 23, in the Sir Richard Lake Hall at the Government House in Regina.
David Chow, one of the owners of the award-winning building, said the honour is a very special one because of the hard work he, his father and partners put into the restoration.
“We are very, very proud that we were first nominated and then chosen for the award,” he said.
When David and brother, and fellow law firm partner Darin, first looked into purchasing the original Royal Bank, which was built in 1914, he said they weren’t expecting to find much of the historical detailing left.
When the bank was remodelled into the Bank of Montreal, it was assumed most of the original flooring and ceiling had been removed. However, as soon as the purchase was complete and the Chows took possession, the first thing they did was begin to investigate.
“We were really anxious to get in and peek under the suspended ceiling because we had heard rumours of what was under there, and particularly the historic plaques there were of the provinces,” said David.
“So, as soon as we took possession, that very day we propped up a ladder, went into the suspended ceiling and shined a flashlight around and could see there was still an ornate plaster ceiling hidden up there.”
