Moose Jaw -
Prairie South bus service innovations are really on the move.
During the Prairie South School Division board's recent regular meeting, transportation manager Bob Reid delivered an update on student transportation within the division.
Among those topics discussed by Reid was the division's move away from a system of employing some bus drivers and contracting out some routes to private companies, to a system whereby all bus drivers work within the school division realm.
Reid told the Times-Herald 65 of Prairie South's 135 routes were handled by private contractors before the switch at the beginning of the school year. He noted the division hired all contracted drivers who met division requirements and wanted the job.
According to Reid, division-operated busing allows for a greater degree of control and flexibility regarding student bus service. Without having to worry about fulfilling contracts, for example, he said the division can swiftly change routes and schedules as demand necessitates.
