Coun. Brian Swanson is quite right is asking why Palliser Campus was left out of the funding loop announced this year by the federal and provincial governments.
With $118 million delivered to post-secondary schools in the province, Palliser Campus was the only SIAST campus to not receive any funding. No one would believe for one minute it's because the school does not need any upgrades, renovations or equipment.
So why was it left out? As a result of Swanson's concern, city officials will try to meet with both levels of government to ask why the Moose Jaw school received no funding under this particular program.
Palliser Campus has become so much a part of this city's fabric we almost forget it is there. But it is a good selling point for businesses trying to recruit staff. The school offers a host of programs that are relevant to today's businesses and industries. The programs are popular and classes are often filled to capacity.
The school has a reputation for turning out well-educated workers capable of entering the workforce immediately upon graduation.
Is it all pre-election pandering by Swanson? Possibly, but it still doesn't hurt to put the point across.

I hope that the Times Herald questions all councillors that are putting their names forth as to whether they are guilty of pre-election pandering.
In regards to Mr. Swanson, this is a very unfair statement as Mr. Swanson has consistently been a councillor that brings up thorny issue of Moose Jaw SIAST getting a fair deal. Look back and you will see that when a report on SIAST was presented to council was presented by Mr. Morris the rest of the councillors hide behind NDP provincial politicans and cried foul that Mr. Swanson had the nerve to suggest the Moose Jaw was not getting a fair shake when it came to SIAST.
During this election I hope that the Times Herald refrains from offering biased opinions on those who choose to run for council.
