Celebrating the first day of the last year of her high school career, Mart-Mari Vanheerden said one of her goals for the next 10 months is to just enjoy what time she has left as a high school student.
"It is exciting but sad at the same time to think that this is my senior year. This has been my school for the past four years, so it will be hard to move on."
On the other hand, Vanheerden is ready for the transition into university. In the fall of 2010, the student leadership council (SLC) president plans to head off to the University of Saskatchewan. She hopes to become a radiologist.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Vanheerden said her first day back at Central Collegiate had been fantastic.
She said she had a first period spare, a couple of classes and some time to catch up with friends.
However, it wasn't the football games or dances that had this Cyclone excited about the first day of school, it was returning to the SLC room, where she would now sit as president.
