Darrell Crabbe, chairman for the School Community Council (SCC) at Riverview Collegiate, is pleased with the Prairie South School Division's decision to continue with Riverview as a high school.
Crabbe said those he has talked to in the South Hill community are excited for the opportunity to revitalize Riverview.
By integrating the Grade 7 and Grade 8 students into the programs and the school, South Hill may see many students remain at the school, instead of attending Peacock or Central Collegiate.
"I think it has kind of been determined that in most cases where Grade 7s and 8s have the opportunity to go to a school like Riverview . . . a lot of times they are not going to opt to change to a different high school in Grade 9."
Crabbe said by having the students enter the school earlier it will give them a chance to bond with the teachers, coaches and older students.
"I think there are a lot of positive opportunities that will come from this decision."
