Since 2001 Silver Star Salvage has been working with the city to help ensure Moose Javians recycle the majority of their metal items.
However, on Jan. 14, 2009 council received a letter from the owner of the salvage company regarding peoples unwillingness to recycle at the city landfill.
Speaking on behalf of the Silver Star Salvage at the executive committee meeting Monday was Wayne Mitchell and Melanie Blackwell.
Mitchell told council it is not their recommendation council add an extra charge or fine those who choose not to recycle but instead find away to make people aware of the damage they are causing to the environment by not recycling and educate them on better ways to recycle.
At this time there are two locations people can drop their recyclable metal, said Mitchell. One is a bin at the landfill and the other is located at Eighth Avenue and High Street, NW, which is open 24-7.
The executive committee voted in favour of the recommendation to continue to advise landfill user they need to drop off all metal items at the allocated bins.
The recommendation will now go before council at a later date.
