Today is Earth Day - time to show a little appreciation for this planet upon which we live.
Earth Day began in 1970 in Wisconsin. Canada joined the Earth Day movement in 1990 and in recent years it has been catching on more as scientists begin to document the ever-changing environment.
Sometimes, especially in the dead of winter in Saskatchewan, it's hard to accept the fact we are going through a period of global warming. But photographs of the receding polar ice caps seem to give credence to this theory.
Some species of animals are being forced to find new habitats while others are dwindling in numbers - to the point some face extinction.
Scientists blame pollution for blanketing our atmosphere and trapping harmful gases.
If you choose to believe what these scientists say is happening, you need to become concerned now.
There are things every one of us can do.
Recycling is a good start. It costs next to nothing to set paper aside in bundles or a box and drop them off on a future trip past a recycling bin. You can do the same with tin, glass and plastic.
Start using cloth bags for your groceries or at least bring your own plastic bags rather than collecting new ones each time you buy groceries.
Adjust your thermostat to reflect your lifestyle (you don't need to keep a whole house heated or cooled when no one is home during the day).
There are countess opportunities to help. Just look for them.
Earth could use a little TLC
