REGINA (The Canadian Press) - Memory cards containing 26 hours of irreplaceable interviews with Canadian war veterans have been returned to a London, Ont., man after they were stolen in Regina.
Randy Young, who is travelling across Canada gathering stories from veterans for an online archive, made a short stop in Regina on Sunday to ask directions to the Royal Canadian Legion. When he returned to his van, he discovered that all his equipment and interviews had been stolen.
He remained in Regina and made a public plea for the return of his items - no questions asked.
The plea worked as Young discovered a plastic bag containing the memory cards on his vehicle after he left the local Legion branch Thursday night.
Young thinks the thief may have started watching the videos, saw what they contained and was moved to return them.
Young is the co-founder of Friends of Veterans Canada, which received its federal charitable papers last spring.
