You have never seen a jury like this.
Heck, you have never seen a trial like this.
On Wednesday night, Jesus Christ was on trial at Central Lutheran Church. A jury of 75 took in the proceedings.
Wednesday's event was part two of a five-part Lenten drama put on by Central Lutheran and St. Aidan Anglican Church.
On this night, testimony was heard from Mary Magdalene, a purported prostitute and devoted disciple of Jesus.
Magdalene, played by Mayda Valgardsson, was first cross-examined by the Crown prosecutor, played by Helen Dunn.
The prosecutor sought to establish Magdalene as emotionally unstable and neurotic, and questioned her love for the Messiah.
Magdalene claimed that Jesus healed her, rescuing her from being possessed by demons. She also professed her love to be simply admiration.
Then, Deanna Rued, acting as the defence attorney, attempted to show that Magdalene had undergone a dramatic transformation and was presently healthy thanks to Christ.
Before putting the court in recess, judge Fred Koshnysh instructed the jury to carefully consider the testimony in order to determine whether Jesus should be found guilty of fraud and ultimately live or die.
Central Lutheran Church's Rev. Doug Shepherd applauded the actors in the play, saying that the Crown Prosecutor was so convincing in her role that one almost felt a dislike for her.
Shepherd said the first two nights have been very successful.
"It has been very well received by the congregants, and those from other congregations have joined in and are welcome as well.
"It's a nice departure. It kind of stretches us a little bit to take us out of the regular form of worship."
Shepherd said the church has performed dramas of various types over the last five years. He said the Christian church has a rich tradition of drama as part of worship.

There are some pretty sad views of religion.

While some may use it as a source of political power. And the conflicts that have risien because of it are undeniable.

Religion also has a purpose of inspiring the uninspired, and acting as a source of strength for people in need. I would encourage the pparanoid masses to take in a sermin listen empathically instead of listening to react and worrying about who is sitting in the isle across from you.

It says a lot about your ego and sense of self preservation when you have to find the bad in something that is genuinely intended to be good.

If you belonged to a political party or a social club that was tied to as much bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, violence and sheer ignorance as religion is, you'd resign in protest. To do otherwise is to be an enabler...

I think theyre just examining what wouldve happened to Jesus in a modern justice system like ours rather than the execution order he received in the past. I think Jesus would be more disappointed with Jonny for insulting people than these people examining Jesus' life in a unique way.

Religion is dangerous because it allows human beings who don't have all the answers to think that they do. Most people would think it's wonderful when someone says, 'I'm willing Lord, I'll do whatever you want me to do.' Except that since there are no gods actually talking to us, that void is filled in by people with their own corruptions and limitations and agendas.
