Red Lake Community Club will be holding its 100th anniversary picnic July 12.
Red Lake School was a one-room school built in 1909. It was closed in 1963-64 and students were bused to Moose Jaw. After being vacant and deteriorating for many years, the Red Lake Community Club was formed in 1988 with the aim of restoring and maintaining the school building.
This year's 100th anniversary celebration and picnic will feature opening ceremonies at 1 p.m. with a parade at 2 p.m. and supper sold at 5 p.m. During the afternoon there will be races, ball games and various booths.
Invitations have been extended to former teachers, students, neighbours and others to attend the picnic.
Acknowledgement will also be given to Miles Huntley, president of the club, who will celebrate his 100th birthday this year. He was born in the district, attended Red Lake School and lived in the district for most of his life. He has been president since the club began.
