Everyone loves a parade, but it’s even more magical when the big guy in red makes an appearance.

Moose Jaw’s 2012 Kinsmen Annual Santa Claus Parade didn’t disappoint young and old alike on Saturday night, with the official start to the holiday season rolling right up Main Street.

Moose Jaw emergency services led the way, with MLAs Warren Michelson and Greg Lawrence offering Christmas salutations and holiday treats to the crowd.

“Merry Christmas!” was shouted so many times during the night, the only thing to occur more often were the hundreds of candy canes handed out to people lined up a dozen deep along Main Street.

“We’re having a great time!” attendant, Stu Mackay told the Times-Herald. “I’m glad we came to see everything.”

The parade started at 7 p.m. and travelled north on the east side of Main Street, with dozens of entries and floats, all filled with holiday enthused participants ready to spread some Christmas cheer. “We’re making sure Santa gets to town,” Kinsmen Chair Kelvin Bradford said. “we’re looking forward to a great parade.”

A Santa Claus parade could be no such thing without Saint Nick making a magical appearance to mark the occasion. Santa didn’t disappoint and Mrs. Claus was right beside him as they waved to all the children. “Ho-ho-ho! Merry Christmas!” bellowed Santa as he led the crowd to the Lights On ceremony, taking place to illuminate us into Christmas at Fifth Avenue Connection.

“I want to thank everyone for helping and putting the parade together,” Mayor Deb Higgins said during the ceremony.
