Author Angie Abdou at last year's Teen Writing Experience

For 18-year-old Blake Pritchard, the Teen Writing Experience at the Saskatchewan Festival of Words, offered him an opportunity to meet like minded peers and hone his writing skills.

Pritchard, a student at St. Peter’s College, Muenster, took part in the event for five years in a row.

“I loved it,” he said. “It’s spectacular. It’s a whole bunch of people who share the same interests.

“Angie Abdou taught for the majority of my years there. I learned how to write better dialogue and better imagery and she gave us a lot of confidence.

“It was being able to share writing without fear of criticism but knowing it’s going to make you stronger in your writing.”

Pritchard said he encourages young writers to take part in the week, which this year runs from July 11-15.

This year’s instructor will be author Brenda Niskala, who has taught creative writing for the University of Regina Extension Department and the Sage Hill Teen Writing Experience.
