On Thursday, Premier Brad Wall will be in Moose Jaw for the multiplex sod-turning ceremony.
The event will take place at the intersection of River Street West and Second Avenue Northwest at 11 a.m.
While in Moose Jaw, the premier will also be attending the Wakamow Valley Kids Day.
The kids day will take place at Kiwanis River Park at 1 p.m.
Wall's visit to the Friendly City is part of a tour he is taking to three Saskatchewan communities.
Before his visit here, he will have been to Lloydminister and Battleford, which, like Moose Jaw, received funding for projects through the province's $100-million Municipal Economic Enhancement Program.

Karen...the buildings are all down What is left standing will be where parking was supposed to be and will remain standing That is the benefits of that particular location...shelter from the wind...

JR... perhaps you don't know who I am (not that I'm trying to be self important here...) but my husband and I have Joe's Locksmith. I'm telling you, not all the buildings are gone yet. The old Perth's and H&R Block building are still standing.

Colleen, if you look back to all the council meetings dealing with the Duplex, nowhere does Luhning say that she is against a project. Her concerns echoed many citizen's concerns, location, cost, no parking, contaminated soil, no input from the public, and so on. 40% of us agree with her so maybe you should lighten up a bit. Any delays were the product of secrecy and backroom deals by Mc Bain and Co.

I have no time for any of the businesses that didn't sell when you had the chance. Especially when you were offered market value.

I hope the greed of it all is what sustains you in the next 3-5 years while you look over your shoulder for expropriation!!

    You've earned! What a joke!

Especially the guy at council standing there like a fool. Sorry you greedy greedy fool. You got what you deserved.

Did you own Nortel or Enron too????

Karen I agree with you and I think it should have been done now not later. The original budget was for $61M and we were told we could afford it with only a small tax increase. The new budget is $51M approx and we are going ahead with the project. The extra $10M should have been put into a parkade and I truely believe most of the taxpayers would have seen that as a positive move. To hold back on a parkade only gives the allusion that the present council came in under budget and makes them look good and will pass on the onerous job of finishing the job to the next Council. It is too bad because people like yourselves will have to relocate again in a few years and you may not feel it is worth it.

I thought all of the buildings had to be down first before they started turning the sod... am I mistaken?

Listen to yourselves! like a bunch of old women arguing your points on stuff you have no control over. What a real circus we would have if you lot were on council. Get off your soap boxes, get a job and have the grace to know that you should not comment on a subject unless you are qualified to do so.

Colleen, take your effin blinders off would you? Nowhere in the council meetings did Dawn ever say she was against this project, she was against the way the fab 5 were going about it though. It's people like you who make it seem like somehow this is all her fault. If the multiplex steering committee could have come up with something much sooner, the multiplex would have already been built. Quit trying to pass off the blame on someone else, and if you don't have anything constructive to say, please...keep it to yourself.
It's about time the multiplex is within reach, it's been long enough, but I'm so sick and tired of all the bickering that's gone on between the 2 sides, I could really care less about the multiplex about now. Please, the multiplex is going in whether we all like it or not, so either we can get on the same page as each other and support this thing or just sit down on your hands and be quiet because whether you want it or not....it's coming.

Colleen, I think you need to grow the heck up though, seriously.

Karen I realize those two are not completely down yet but they are already contained within the footprint of the Multiplex building and will not provide any parking spaces. Why Council did not do the right thing and buy and level the whole block I don't know but crowding such a large and hopefully busy building into such an obviously small space is just plain rediculous...like you and your husband trying to run your business in a 15 foot camper on a 20 foot lot.

Unofficially speaking and perhaps unrealistically (because, hasn't this all been a little far fetched), we figger that in 3 to 5 years time, the city is going to come a-knocking on our door and say, okay you guys, out you get. We want this space for parking. I mean, really, if you really, really think about it, why would they leave these grungy, (pardon the expression) scummy buildings up, when they're building a brand new one behind it. We're bracing for impact because we're sure it's going to happen again.

TerryB, I have a job and what does that have to do with anything? How is it that only some people are allowed to comment on things? If you don't like read the verbal spankings that I can give, then feel free to pass right over top of my comment. Otherwise, I will just assume that I have just as much right to comment on here as you do.

Colleen, I wasn't saying that you weren't for the project, we can all plainly see that, what I'm saying is they (the TH) make an article about sod turning and all of a sudden you come bouncing in here exclaiming that Dawn needs to be invited because she'll throw a tantrum if she isn't. Totally broadside comment and not at all what the story was about. It is people like you who make people like me not give a rats rear if the multiplex comes or not.

Yah, by the way, I'm pretty sure I can see clearly that you are the one who is sitting in the dark hole, if the best you can come up with as soon as the multiplex is mentioned is Dawn & Swanson. Get over it already, so they want to stall the project. What about Darren and RSH and Swinger boy...they want to do back door dealings but as soon as someone calls them on it, automatically they are trying to stall the project...give me a break.

Bout time you bought a new pair of glasses. I didn't say I was against the project. I've supported it from day 1. I am also aware that Swanson and Luhning have done their best to stall this project. I really don't give a rats rear if you agree or not. We have all been entertained for how many years by their attempts to just make this project go away. You sit in your dark hole and look at this scenario from your view and I will look at it from reality central. The owners of the buildings still standing were probably looking for inflated prices and are left with their slums for now. Another example of Moose Jaw intelligence...not.

News flash: Swanson motions to operate the shovel as he's the most experienced... Ditto doll votes in favor.

Sorry JR, wrong again, the $51.5 million is only for the design build contract and does not include land, demolition, project management, utilities hook up, or even all the money already spent by the steering committee. The demolition of the civic center is also required as part of that original budget of $61 million. The actual cost of the design build was set at $50 million and has come in $1.5 million over before construction begins. That does away with any apparent saving on the land and demolition.
Please tell me do you really think the citizens of Moose Jaw are willing to pay for parking at Warriors games. I think not, check with the Pats about that one.

But the Mayor and his lambs including the no time for this anymore Councillor Chow stated we had nearly 750 parking spots on the street beside the Multiplex. Did someone move those streets with the rubble?? Oh right Just build it and parking will be OK right.

If you look at the plans the majority of onsite parking is for staff!!!!
So technically the 72 parking spaces is a mere 40.....

First order of business.....For G..Sakes make sure to invite Luhning. If not her tears will flood downtown Moose Jaw and delay the start of the whole project. I don't know why Swanson and Luhning would want to attend ...given their attitude to the project but lets not take a chance. City Hall issue her an invitation and hand deliver. We don't want any more tantrums...it's tourist season.
