Discussion at the Canadian Medical Association annual meeting in Saskatoon included talk about a predicted swine flu (H1N1) pandemic in Canada.
With there being so much information out there every day through the traditional media as well as the Internet, it is becoming more difficult to know just how serious we need to take this.
To begin with, we need one agency disseminating the "official" information. We need a source that we can put our trust in, that will deliver the information we need when we need it - an agency that sorts fact from speculation.
As it is, people don't know whether to be concerned we could be in a full blown pandemic this fall/winter and how bad the situation is expected to be. Who most needs flu shots? Will there be enough vaccine for everyone who needs it and will everyone be able to afford it?
Your family doctor could probably answer all your questions, but many Canadians don't have a family doctor and most doctors are so busy as it is that being swarmed by patients with questions slows doctors' ability to see patients in need of immediate care.
Perhaps the CMA should be our only source of information.
We need one official source
