Last year’s Journey to Hope raised $8,000 and, although there was no final tally available on Saturday, Ferguson hoped to surpass that figure this year.
Douglas said her family managed to raise $3,000 towards suicide prevention this year. She urges those thinking about taking their own lives to seek help and not succumb to what she describes as “cancer of the soul.”
“Have faith and have courage and know there are people out there going through the exact same thing — so reach out.”
Anyone still wanting to donate towards Journey of Hope can make donations at W.J. Jones and Son’s Funeral Home.
