April was a busy month for members of the Old Wives 4-H Club. Along with doing the usual chores, members' parents are calving out their cows and everyone is eagerly awaiting spring weather.
The group had its monthly meeting April 3 at the Rosso farm. Reports were given from the annual meeting, the growth leadership workshop and Tyson Thul's trip to Ottawa. It was interesting to hear what experiences some members had at the various activities and events.
Following the general meeting, members separated into groups and had some time with project leaders. The Cloverbuds enjoyed their opportunity to create decorated door hangers.
The members in photography got a list of photographs to take while the woodworkers did a word-search puzzle. Record keeping was the subject of the junior beef members and they had some help from the senior beef members. The intermediate beef members learned about parasites in beef animals.
It was an exciting evening for members in the sheep project because they got to bring their sheep to have them weighed. They also learned all about the newborn lamb.
Members' mothers got to do a little fundraising while serving lunch at a farm auction sale April 28. Members will also co-host a steak supper at the Eagles Club along with the Moose Jaw 4-H Beef Club as a fundraiser for the show at the Hometown Fair.
The next general meeting is scheduled for tonight. The time is passing quickly and achievement day preparations are in full swing. Members were reminded to keep record books up to date.
