A weekend accident could have ended up a lot worse than it did.
A police spokesman (who was not on the scene but had knowledge of the accident) said at least one person in one of the vehicles was not wearing a seatbelt when two vehicles collided at an intersection.
Seatbelt usage in this province has been the law for several decades. There is absolutely no excuse not to not be wearing one in a moving vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle in question were young enough to have not been a passenger in a vehicle prior to the seatbelt law. All of his life, he should have been wearing a seatbelt.
It's amazing that some drivers - and passengers - don't buckle up. You have to wonder where they've lived that they either don't know the law or don't understand the reason for the law.
When police hold stopchecks each year, inevitably they hand out more than a handful of seatbelt tickets. Usually the stop checks are well advertised and one would think drivers and passengers would know to wear seatbelts during this time if at no other. Yet, police inevitably find drivers or passengers who just don't get it.
Some people just dont get it
