As we enjoy this last long weekend of summer, many will head out of town savouring what is arguably the best summer weather we've enjoyed all year.
But all that added traffic on our highways can spell trouble. Between inattentive drivers, impaired drivers and more drivers on the highways, the odds of there being a serious accident increase.
It's relatively easy to be part of the solution.
Don't set out on a long drive feeling stressed, tired or anxious. Get some rest before hitting the road.
Turn the cellphone off. Keep it nearby in case of an emergency, but only use it in an emergency or when stopped for a break.
Make sure the kids have lots to occupy their minds so they are not constantly nagging the driver.
Take plenty of rest breaks and enjoy the beautiful scenery and fantastic weather.
But most of all, just say no to anyone who offers you alcoholic beverages when you know you will have to drive your vehicle. It's not worth all the heartache one drink could cause.
One more summer fling
