Moose Jaw -

We've apparently come to a place in time where a glitch in cyberspace is almost cause for panic.
With Shaw's Internet service down Tuesday morning, this business was thrown into turmoil. No doubt, others who use Shaw's service found themselves scrambling as well.
We are fortunate in that most of the copy we use is either written by staff or comes from Canadian Press - a wire service we receive by satellite, not Internet. But that's not to say we were not blocked from other sources we deem vital - such as e-mail.
By Wednesday morning, our computers were hit and miss: some people could access the Internet while others had to go looking elsewhere to make their connections.
As much as an episode such as this might make us nostalgic for snail-mail, the reality is that not many places dealing with the media put stamp to envelope anymore. Nope, it's usually fax or e-mail.
So our reliance on an outside provider has shifted from Canada Post to Shaw Communications. Neither is infallible as past experience has taught us.
But imagine all the Internet chatter and e-mails that couldn't move for six whole hours Tuesday. One wonders if Facebook or Twitter noticed the absence of some Moose Javians that morning. Probably not.

Pot Stirrer from Moose Jaw: Sasktel also has problems from time to time. There is no perfect syste.
Doesn't Shaw have local jobs that our rates pay for?

I've had both services, and in spite of Tuesday's internet server crash, I prefer Shaw, because they're cheaper than Sasktel, and give me better service and bang for my buck. If Sasktel offered unlimited local and long-distance in North America, with all features included plus 1,000 minutes of international long distance to 50 countries per month all for $55/mo., then I might consider switching back. Oh...and it's less than that if you bundle up net and cable. Besides, Shaw has faster download and upload times from my experience. Considering how few problems I've ever had with them, an incident like this is of no concern to me, and not worth switching back to Sasktel.

I think he was talking about profits from Sasktel going back to our province. I like Sasktel better too. But not for cell service when travelling.

I've had Sasktel for 4 years now and haven't had a problem. Maybe the TH should be supporting a company that brings money back to Saskatchewan instead of sending your money to Shaw in Calgary.

Our house uses Rogers(not my choice). Not happy with the lag I get when I'm gaming online. I used Sasktel and it seemed to run smoother.

The way the US is starting to censor free speech on the net, it won't be worth a dang anyways...
They're going to start shutting it down in the name of Homeland Security.
