SILVER SANDS, Alta. - The body of an Edmonton father of three young children has been recovered from Lake Isle a week after he went missing.
A fisherman discovered the body of 35-year-old Vernon Vincent Olson floating in the lake Sunday morning.
Olson was last seen by his family before dawn on July 5 when he left a relative¹s home in the summer village of Silver Sands, about 90 km west of Edmonton.
Police said he may have been canoeing on Lake Isle, although he was not familiar with the lake or the surrounding area.
The canoe and paddle were found abandoned on a lake the day he went missing and Olson's cell phone was also discovered on the beach.
Several searches were organized earlier in the week, but heavy rains and winds impeded the search efforts.
