Moose Jaw -

Jake's Saloon, also known as Nevada Nickels, has extended its stay on River Street to the end of the year and possibly even longer.

The last standing bar on the once booming zero block of River Street West was scheduled to close late this spring.

However, Danny Langlois, owner of Jake's Saloon, said in light of the Little Chicago Development company's new construction schedule and recent delays, the company has approached him with the idea of staying open a bit longer.

Langlois said when the opportunity presented itself, he was more than happy to sign a new lease and keep Jake's open as long as possible.

"It actually has worked out great because I was unsure of what I was going to do next."

His staff and customers were also happy about the news of the lease extension.

"My staff have been great and I am very grateful to them. They have been hanging in there with me, even with all the changes to the closing date."

At this time Langlois said he is expecting to be open until the end of the year but that will depend on the Little Chicago Development.

He said the company has been more than fair in its dealings with his business and has expressed an interest in letting the bar remain open until the property is ready to be prepped for construction.

Neil Montgomery, who is with the Little Chicago Development Company, said he sees no need at this time to close Jake's.

He said this is because there are no plans to begin construction on that property in the near future and Jake's itself is still doing well.

Montgomery suspects Jake's will remain open until late December.
