As of this morning, RCMP had not released the names of two men, a flight instructor and a student, killed in an ultralight aircraft crash five kilometres southeast of the Corman Park Airstrip near Saskatoon.
Dead are a 28-year-old male from the Moose Jaw area and a 56-year-old male from the Saskatoon area
Police have notified the families and have not received permission from them to release the names, said Sgt. Carole Raymond, RCMP media relations officer. However, family and friends of the flight instructor from Saskatoon, Vern Rees, 56, spoke to the media about the crash, indentifying him as one of the victims.
The aircraft was found by a civilian aircraft and a military search and rescue Hercules aircraft that notified police about the discovery around 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Raymond said the investigation into the crash will be done by Transport Canada and it could take a few weeks until the cause is determined.
Transport Canada will be looking into who was flying the plane at the time of the crash, said Raymond.
