For Moose Jaw’s federal Tory representative, delaying the return to Parliament shouldn’t be considered as big a deal as the Grits make it out to be.

In fact, Palliser Conservative MP Ray Boughen said the federal government shutting down Parliament is certainly not unusual and the Liberal Party conducted similar shutdowns when Jean Chretien was prime minister.

“(The Liberals) say nobody shuts down Parliament, but yes they do and for various reasons,” Boughen said, adding the Liberals shut down Parliament in 1996, 1999, 2002 and 2003.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Stephen Harper shutdown Parliament past the initial Jan. 25 return date, keeping the House closed until March 3.

Although there won’t be any legislation passed until after all politicians head back to Ottawa in March, Boughen said the House is just one aspect of what an MP does on a regular basis.

“I plan to be here (in Palliser) every day from now until we go back to the House,” he told the Times-Herald on Wednesday, adding an MP facilitates between his or her riding and the various ministries, doing such things as campaigning for federal funding.

Just like the Conservatives - always switching the subject to someone else. Enough with EXCUSES! Your job is to make parliament work, and to work with 65% of the MPs elected in other parties. Your continual refusal to find compromise over the last few elections shows disrespect for democracy, and the voters that voted other than PC..

Oh well they do nothing anyway....Perhaps when they suspend parliament they should suspend their wages then the useless buggars would be bookin it back to Ottawa. The MP'S and most all the MLA'S are the biggest waste of taxpayers dollars there is given what they actually do. The wages these dudes get is huge and the return on our investment bites the big one, let's recall all of them and elect folks who'll actually do something......aah that's feels better, so the Pats suck eh!

Ray, it is a big deal. It is not so much that you are doing this but the timing. There is so much to deal with right now and you folks decide to bury your heads at a time you are needed the most. Very cowardly! Spindless!

Well Ray while you are her maybe you can find out just how many NEW jobs our federal, provincial and municipal tax dollars have created around that Multimess project, based on the amount of dollars spent thus far. That is if you aren`t too busy. Or are you even concerned about such numbers?

For the record: Liberal prorogation of parliament from the beginning of Trudeau's tenure. 1963; 1965; 1967; 1969; 1970; 1972; 1974; 1976; 1977; 1978; 1983. Chretien: 1996; 1999; 2002; 2003. Three times by Mr. Mulroney and twice by Mr. Harper pales in comparison.

Maybe Ray could help with the fundraising for the Multimess! I heard they are thinking of selling the Ice Cubes from the the sewage spill, at least they can get something of substance with that. Ray, how about doing some real work for the city while you are home, maybe try to get business, housing or at least something useful, as you have been a waste in Ottawa. The only MP in last parliament to not get up and make any statements, boy did we get sucked in.
