MP for Palliser Ray Boughen has been rushing all over Moose Jaw making federal funding announcements for community groups in the city.

The busy MP was also joined by Moose Jaw North MLA Warren Michelson on Thursday, who made funding announcements for the Government of Saskatchewan for the Prairie South School Division and the Moose Jaw YMCA.

The school division received $25,000 in federal skills link funding for its extended transitions program, which will help 30 youngsters ease their transition to work or return to school.

The project also received $35,000 from the Government of Saskatchewan for the second year.

Boughen said funding was going towards many different projects.

He said: “These projects come from applications so people have applied for different funding and we have championed that cause with them.”

At the Prairie South School Division offices, Boughen said he was impressed with the extended transitions program.

The funding announcement was made on behalf of Diane Finley, minister of human resources and skill development.

It is interesting how the feds fund local groups. The only Aboriginal service organization in Moose Jaw gets absolutely no funding? This makes me upset to know that the only services organization for Aboriginal people is funded only by grants from the province and I'm assuming a partership with the PSSD to have office space. Let's get more involved and speak out for this little organization that will! I know Mr. Wolverine, and his organization is a wonderful resource not only for the Aboriginal people, but for the entire community. It is truly sad that organizations like this are left out. I support the initiatives and progress of Mr. Wolverine's group, and wish him all the success in attracting funding to make sure the ONLY Aboriginal services organization in Moose Jaw doesn't disappear.
