Moose Jaw area groups need your votes

Two Moose Jaw area groups, which aim to support youth, are asking for the city’s help in voting for their projects in the Aviva Community Fund Contest.

Both Joe’s Place in Moose Jaw and Refined/Undignified, based in Caronport, have made it through to the last round.

But they need more votes to win. Voting online began on Wednesday and the winners will receive project funding.

As of Thursday, Joe’s Place had 1,295 votes and was in 30th place.

The centre is looking for $10,000-$50,000 for its Hungry For Hope project, which would be used to install a new kitchen to help feed hungry youngsters.

“This is it- the final voting phase,” said Joe Dueck, founder and director of Joe's Place, “We are two days in to 15 days voting.”

But Dueck said the centre was struggling to get enough votes.

Steve, that's exactly it. It only takes a couple of minutes while one is checking their e-mail or surfing the web to do this. Also, you can vote once a day until the deadline, so vote away. These groups are running against projects in larger centres, so they need all the votes we can give them to have a shot at getting some of this money. It would be great if we could get even 5000 people voting once a day. Tell your friends and family about it, and encourage them to vote. My personal choice is Joe's Place, because he has been helping youth in our community for almost 20 years...much of the funding has come from his own pocket, so if we can help him get extra money to do more, then it would be great.

I thought I'd take a look at what this was all about... Sounds good for the youth! Money I don't have to give, but I can vote. I just registered and voted. Just need an email, don't even need your name. If you have time, might as well vote. Steve
