It’s time to get voting.
Moose Jaw’s first free youth-teen swim program is hoping to win funding through the Pepsi Refresh project.
Individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations can put forward ideas that will have a positive impact on communities and people can vote for their favourite suggestion.
As of Wednesday, the project was ranked number one for votes but needs to make sure it stays in the top position.
Erin Fogarty, health promotion co-ordinator, who runs the swim program every Friday at the Kinsmen Sportsplex, has applied for $10,000 funding.
If the program is granted the money, the weekly free swim will have enough funds to keep going until the end of 2011. It began in May, 2010.
The sessions run from 9 p.m. to midnight and are open to all youth aged 12 to 18 years old.
Fogarty said the aim is to get youngsters off the streets and into positive activity.
Voting for the Pepsi Refresh project began on Wednesday and will run until Oct. 31.
For this round there are 254 ideas in the running and $200,000 funding available.
