A host of activities, including swimming and ice-skating, will be available at the Kinsmen Sportsplex’s 16th annual ‘First Night’ New Years Eve family celebration on Dec. 31.

Shelley Howe, recreation programs supervisor, said the event is a great way for families to celebrate the new year together, while keeping children amused.

“We have lots going on. The doors open at 7 p.m. and we have events and activities planned until 12:30 a.m.

“There’s swimming and skating and we play games in the pool area and there will be a DJ set up.

“We put out the large water inflatable for kids to climb on and there’s lots of doors prizes and prizes for games,” she said.

Howe said in the lobby area, there will also be pool tables, table football and Wii games.

“This is our 16th year. It seems to be very popular. We get very good feedback about the program.

“It varies year to year but we usually get close to 400 people. Really part of our goal is to provide recreational and activity programs for families to participate in together so we like to do that through the holidays,” she said.

Tickets for the event, which are on sale now, cost $25 for a family of four, plus $5 per extra family member.

On Dec. 30 and 31, tickets will cost $30, if still available.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.
