Imagine finding some coins over two hundred years old. That’s what one local woman apparently did while digging around in the grounds. “She received a nice little cheque for that,” THR & Associates human resources recruiter Thomas Altevogt said, adding the story behind some of the antique coins he purchases are quite interesting — lots of rare pieces being passed down from one generation to the next. “We have seen some rare coin sets.” While the sentimental nature of these currency pieces can be quite valuable to people, on Thursday Altevogt told the Times-Herald quite often when those people see the amount of money International Coin Collectors (ICC) is willing to pay for the pieces, they’ll often consider a trade. However, even if one doesn’t end up selling their old coin collections, paper currency collections, and spare gold and silver items to the travelling ICC tour currently in Moose Jaw, Atlevogt said it might be nice simply to have professionals analyze the pieces and suggest what they’re worth. “A lot of people don’t realize what they have until they bring it in and we look at them.” The ICC tour arrived in Moose Jaw on Wednesday and is staying until Sunday at the Comfort Inn & Suites at 155 Thatcher Dr. W. Today, ICC will be appraising and purchasing items on behalf of a global network of collectors, dealers and refineries from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, this event will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
