Relay for Life organizing committee chairwoman Doris Dunphy is putting the call out to all Moose Javians — sign up for this year’s Relay for Life.

“I think it’s a very worthy cause,” Dunphy told the Times-Herald about the annual 12-hour fundraiser, which raises money for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS).

However, while last year about 27 team signed up to walk the track in support of cancer research, thus far in 2012 only 15-16 teams have agreed to participate in the upcoming event.

“It seems to be down quite a bit this year.”

Dunphy said the 2012 Relay for Life would go forth no matter how many teams agree to participate and fundraise, but she worries what low participation numbers this year might mean for the viability of the event in future years.
