Though it wa s a day early for National Volunteer week, the Moose Jaw YMCA held a gala to honour its volunteers and donours at Chillers Brew Pub on Saturday.

Awards were handed out to volunteers that had been nominated by the club’s members. There were six different categories, including volunteer of the year, which went to Val Glenn.

“I was very privileged to give Val the award tonight. I’ve been working here eight years and she’s been helping me out for that eight years,” said Quinton Johb, who works at the front desk of the organization. “I have to say the three hours on Wednesday and Friday (that she’s there) are always the most fun days.”

Those in attendance were treated to cocktails and a three-course dinner, with a dance and a live band that followed.

“It’s our chance to give back to the volunteers and donours that always give so much to us,” said event organizer Ashley Florent. “It’s our way of saying thank you for their generosity throughout the year.”
