High school students from across the Prairies will be flexing their poetic muscles on Saturday at a performance poetry workshop held at Lindale Elementary School.

The free workshop will have students receiving instruction on performance poetry and how to participate in a poetry slam from two members of Saskatchewan's slam team-- Charles Hamilton, and Khodi Dill.

“Performance poetry has really taken off in popularity in our area,” said Donna Lee Howes, executive director of the Saskatchewan Festival of Words, which is sponsoring the event. “I think that it’s similar in some ways to hip hop. It’s very expressive and very emotive.”

Howes said that a big reason for the wave of popularity is because of student group called “undone” that holds regular open mic nights in Mortlach.
