Maybe you could be the next Jamie Smith of Moose Jaw,who pulled a 22lb 10 ounce pike out of Buffalo Pound Lake.

This weekend is Saskatchewan’s annual free fishing weekend. Everyone, including visitors from outside the province can fish in Saskatchewan without having to purchase a licence.

“Saskatchewan is one of the world’s top destinations for fresh water fishing,” Environment Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. “This weekend is an excellent opportunity for people of all ages to learn about and enjoy the sport of fishing and to recognize the importance of our fish and aquatic  resources.”

On average, approximately 250,000 people fish in Saskatchewan each year, including more than 40,000 out-of-province anglers.

“The annual event helps in creating public awareness to the diversity of sport fishing available in the province,” Bob Skaftfeld, of the Ministry of Environment said. “Its a great opportunity for family and people from out of province to see what we have to offer.”
