The weather could’ve been better, but organizers still considered Motif 2012 to be a success.
“The people coming through was a little lower than we had hoped, but we still saw a lot of people coming through,” said festival assistant Alba Zhou. “We had a lot of really big dance groups coming through.”
She said the Kayumanggi Philippine Performing Arts from Winnipeg is considered “one of Canada’s best dance groups.” Zhou estimated that 3,000 people came to Motif over the weekend, which is considered average for the festival. She said weather was likely part of the reason there weren’t as many attendees, but the Motif weekend was the same weekend as Craven.
“People are really excited to go to everything and I mean, it’s fair. There’s a lot of stuff going on,” said Zhou. “Attendance was nothing bad. We were just hoping for a really big year.”
Zhou said what worked really well at the festival was bringing in local One Time Twice, who performed on Friday and Tangean Wall, who played on Sunday.
