An alleged animal sighting investigation on Rotary Trail has found no evidence according to the Saskatchewan Ministry of the Environment.

Reports were made early Friday of a black animal resembling a cougar on the Rotary Trail in the 900 block of Laurier Street West area.

Local resident Jacki L’Heureux says she and her daughter caught a glimpse of the animal as they were walking the trail towards Vanier Collegiate.

“It was about 8:20 a.m. and it was black and quite big,” L’Heureux told the Times-Herald. “It had a long tail; and a crowd gathered when a runner also said they came into close contact with the animal.”

L’Heureux says a local neighbor also thinks they saw the animal last week.

According to Michele McEachern of the Ministry of the Environment, nothing has been confirmed through investigation. “We had conservation officers and police investigate with no evidence or sightings made,” McEachern said.
