Just because it’s September, doesn’t mean you should throw out perfectly good greenery.
A Recycling your Greenery program initiated by the Moose Jaw Park and Recreation Dept. allows you to donate trees, shrubs and perennials that have outgrown their space or usefulness in your yard to the City of Moose Jaw. As long as the plants fall within the guidelines for transplanting, the city would be willing to plant them on public green space.
The Park and Recreation Dept. said, “The program benefits the public and city by allowing to donate overgrown perennials. It allows you to donate potted shrubs, or other greenery that sat on your property all summer. It allows you to donate a tree that has become too large for your property. The program also allows the city to plant a sizable tree, potted shrub or perennials for the cost of moving it.”
To determine if a tree, shrubs or perennial is acceptable for the program, city staff will visit your property and assess the plant using certain criteria.
“We’ve found people pick up beautiful potted perennials and cedars over the summer for their decks, but throw them out in the fall,” Daily Lennox of Moose Jaw Park and Recreation told the Times-Herald. “We have the right equipment for the job; and we ask the public to give us a call and we’ll come out to see if the greenery may be donated.”
The public is reminded large trees must be accessible by large mechanical tree spade for removal.
