A new candidate has come forward to run in the Prairie South School Board election.

Corey Atkinson, a 36-year-old father of two, spent two years covering news and sports in Fort McMurray before returning to Moose Jaw.

The Transcontinental Media Saskatchewan Pagination Department page designer spent eight years covering news in the editorial department at the Moose Jaw Times-Herald before moving to Alberta then switching careers upon his return.

“I’ve covered many council and school board meetings over my career and was able to gain insight and a different perspective into the process,” Atkinson said.

He wants to put a focus on early childhood education and wants to help in creating a safe and healthy environment to learn in for all students.

“Now that I am a father, as a parent you feel an obligation to provide the best for children towards the education they receive,” Atkinson said.
