Local Rural Municipalities are gearing up for the Oct. 24 municipal elections, with reeve and odd-numbered division candidates slowly starting to hand in nomination papers.
RM offices began accepting nominations on or before Sept. 4, with potential candidates having to file their papers by 4 p.m. on Wednesday. As of Monday, there didn’t appear yet to be much competition for the positions.
In the RM of Moose Jaw, Reeve Darol Owens has filed his nomination papers, as have all councillors for odd-numbered divisions (Coun. Jeff Crichton in Division 1, Coun. Brent Evans in Division 3, and Coun. Ralph Sturgeon in Division 5).
However, RM administrator John Eberl said Crichton will have some competition for Division 1 councillor, with Ernie Penney having filed his papers at the 170 Fairford St. W. office.
