Laura Hubick doesn’t have any immediate issues with the new location of the old Civic Centre recycling bins.

“It doesn’t seem too bad,” said Hubick. “I don’t think this one is terrible because we always shop at Superstore and we could bring our recycling up before we went grocery shopping.”

But not everyone is okay with the location of the recycling bins. The new location of the recycling bins from the Civic Centre site was a hot topic at Monday’s regular council meeting.

Two separate groups, the board and residents of Fairview Manor and the president of 101175203 SK Ltd, voiced their complaints to council about the location of the recycling bins at the southwest corner of Sobey’s parking lot.

The board and residents of Fairview Manor Condominium Corporation are opposed to the location located in the vicinity of the condos and 33 people signed a petition submitted to council.

“Since they have been placed there, we have had Styrofoam, papers and sheets of plastic blowing around from the bins onto our lot. There are also cardboard boxes placed on the ground when the bins are full, which attract mice and rats,” said Elaine Haukaas, a resident at Fairview Manor. “When we bought our condos, we looked forward to everything new and clean in the new development we chose to live in.”

I think it is gross to have the bins on a grocery lot, knowing people take their dirty recycling to a bin then go feel up the fruits and veggies in a grocery store.

Have we thought of placing them down at the Multiplex Site? It is central and would be a good site.
