Moose Jaw Police Service was able to get a steal of a deal for an upcoming purchase of in-car video systems for MJPS vehicles.

Deputy Chief Randy Fuhr told the Moose Jaw Police Commissioners Board on Tuesday the department was able to secure a deal with Regina company WatchGuard Video under budget for eight video systems.

The equipment budget was set for $60,000, but MJPS was able to come under budget

with an estimated price of around $35,000.

The lower price is partly due to the company offering to take a trade in on the departments current equipment.

“We haven’t had an upgrade in five years,” Fuhr explained to the board about the need for new equipment.

Fuhr and Chief Dale Larson said it really is a useful tool for capturing on the scene evidence. The officers explained it helps in giving concrete proof towards the actions of individuals.

“If a person disagrees with an officer over running a red light, the video can be replayed to the person at the scene,” Fuhr said of the value and efficiency the equipment offers police in clearing up disagreements.
