Free entertainment is on the menu at Java Express Wednesday night, thanks to an event designed to launch the upcoming Cultural Days celebrations, set to run Thursday through to Sunday.

Three featured artists have been invited to the Festival of Words’ monthly Performers Cafe.

Storyteller Kevin McKenzie, cartoonist, illustrator Jonah McFadzean and musical guests Sweet Saturday will be taking part at the Performers Cafe.

“It’s a fun, casual evening where you can come and be entertained and find out if they want to step up to the mic and take part,” Donna Lee Howes, executive director of Festival of Words told the Times-Herald.

Howes said this event will be the first time the community can pick up a list of the upcoming monthly events planned for the future.

According to McKenzie’s bio, he’s “spent the last dozen years travelling, telling stories and starting trouble." He has been invited to speak in six foreign countries as well at in Canada. His background is early childhood education, but his biography states he has nothing against telling stories to adults.

McFadzean will be illustrating Performers Cafe events and is currently working towards a graphic novel compilation of his work.

The Performers Cafe takes place at Java Express, 23 Main St. N,at 7:30 p.m.
