A hamper filled with Christmas dinner awaits any family adopted in the Salvation Army’s Adopt A Family program.

Moose Jaw Salvation Army Capt. Laurie Reilly said the qualifications for families to be adopted are the same qualifications for the Christmas hampers. Families who are on social assistance or with middle to low incomes can qualify.

“We pair them up with the family who wants to adopt,” said Reilly. “When people come in to register for Christmas hampers, some of them will request to be adopted out or if we have too many hampers, we’ll ask a person if they want to adopt out.”

The deadline for the program is Nov. 30 and information will be given out to the adopters in the first week of December. She said people could either come in person or phone the office at 692-5899 to put their name down to adopt a family.

“We just ask that you deliver the hamper as close to Christmas as possible,” said Reilly. “It slightly increased last year. I anticipate probably a bit more this year too. It seems to just go up every year.”
