Fewer people used the city’s transit system from July to September in 2012 than in the same time frame in 2011.
During Monday’s regular council meeting, council received the city manager’s city department quarterly reports for the third quarter from July 1 to Sept. 30.
A total of 88,916 passengers utilized the city’s transit system from July 1 to Sept. 30 compared to 102,612 passengers for the same time period in 2011. That is a 13.3 per cent decrease. The year-to-date revenue sub total in 2012 is down $13,712 since 2011 totalling $237,905 prior to the municipal contribution.
The Moose Jaw Fire Department also saw a decrease in the number of alarms from July 1 to Sept. 30 in 2012, but saw an increase in the amount of fire loss. The department responded to 190 alarms in 2012 with approximately $1.17 million in fire loss. In the same time frame in 2011, the department responded to 206 alarms with $80,400 in fire loss.
