A man was killed on the Trans-Canada Highway near Parkbeg on Thursday night after being hit by a semi truck.

The RCMP said in a release that Hugh Leslie Deiter of Calgary was killed on the Trans-Canada Highway near Parkbeg on Thursday night.

Police received the report of the fatal pedestrian collision around 8:50 p.m. Thursday. Deiter was hit by a semi while walking with a friend to get help in Parkbeg along the eastbound lane of the highway.

Deiter and a friend were en route from Calgary to Regina. Highway conditions were not ideal and their vehicle slid off the highway and became stuck in the ditch. The two adult males left the vehicle to walk to Parkbeg to get help.
