An elderly man died at the scene of a single vehicle rollover accident five kilometers west of Parkbeg Thursday night.

An elderly female was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The Moose Jaw RCMP said in a release they responded to the accident on the Trans-Canada Highway at 11:29 p.m.

The SUV-type vehicle, registered in Alberta, was travelling east on the highway. Police do not believe alcohol was involved and although the roadway is described as frosty, the cause of the accident is unknown.

The passing lane of the portion of the highway was closed for several hours, but it is now open again. The RCMP’s forensic traffic analyst was on scene to look into the investigation.

Names are not being released at this time as notification of next of kin is in process.
