Moose Jaw Businessmen's Club, local businesses chip in

Hunger in Moose Jaw was the recipient of a considerable donation from SIAST Business Marketing students on Thursday, in conjunction with the Moose Jaw Businessmen’s Club and Blue Whale Financial Solutions.

“They started (fundraising) back in November and kept it going right up until they left for Christmas,” said Adam Lehmann, the marketing and communications consultant for SIAST Palliser Campus.

The students applied skills and knowledge gleaned from their program to a fundraising strategy, Lehmann said, eventually raising $10,000 — enough to provide 300 students lunches for six weeks.

The group kicked off the fundraiser by approaching area businesses looking for an initial donation, said Lehmann.

“They put together a proposal and took it, Dragons' Den-style, to Blue Whale Financial and Babich Farms,” he said, noting that, together, the companies donated $1,800 toward the endeavour.

“What I saw ... was a great deal of determination, focus and drive within the team of students,” stated Joe Moffat, a spokesperson for Blue Whale Financial, in a release.
