Don’t be too surprised if you’re asked "comment allez-vous?" this week, and if you’re not sure if you should respond with "je vais bien,"  "bien," "merci" or "bien, et vous?" then you should pay attention to some upcoming events.

Ecole St. Margaret will be celebrating French Immersion Week Monday to Friday.

Many activities and events are planned to celebrate French culture and education.

The school will be sharing what students have been learning and preparing for the last few weeks and sharing it with the community.

“We’ve been filming in the classrooms for the past few weeks to show what goes on in the classes,” Ecole St. Margaret teacher Lisa Ethier told the Times-Herald.

She added the video will be available on the school website for the public to be able to watch and check out what it’s like to go to a French immersion school.

“We also have a spelling bee for our Grades 1 through 6 ... and a winter carnival planned for Friday,” Ethier said. “It will involve singing, dancing, a canoe race and hopefully a multi-coloured ice palace.”

Ethier will also be taking her Grade 2 class to the Town ‘n’ Country Mall during the week to let the public see first-hand French immersion education.

“We’ll do everything there that we would do on a normal school day,” Ethier said on the class excursion. “Math, phys-ed, which will be a treasure hunt around the mall, with a list of things to find.”

Ethier will have help from parents and teacher’s aides, and said it’s not only a great learning experience for the students, but also the entire community.

“They’re all quite positive to what we’re doing ... we get grandmas and grandpas who stop by and ask, ‘how do you do this?’" Ethier said of the annual school event.
