Greg Lawrence

Moose Jaw Wakamow MLA Greg Lawrence has been appointed legislative secretary of foster and child care to the Minister of Social Services.

“I was appointed just yesterday, and we had a quick meeting to outline what our expectations are,” Lawrence told the Times-Herald Friday. “We’re going to get down to the nuts and bolts over the next week or so to figure out exactly what we’re going to try and accomplish.”

Lawrence said his own experience as a foster parent equips him with a unique perspective as he prepares to take on the new job, serving with Minister June Draude.

“My wife and I have been foster parents for several years now,” he said. “We actually started working with social services before we became official foster parents.”

“(That experience) has given me an insight from a non-governmental point of view ... I would imagine that the Premier has taken it into account,” added Lawrence.

Lawrence said he and the Minister “have worked closely” on a number of items before, and so he is “looking very forward to delving into this (appointment).”

“I’m excited about the challenges ahead,” he said. “I’m just honoured by the appointment, and that the Premier has confidence in our ability to get this job done.”
