Artist trading cards unique to each artist

Having the freedom to work in a small environment makes artist trading cards appealing to Erica Silzer and her 12-year old daughter Ciera Mottus.

“It’s a good mother-daughter thing,” said Silzer. “I love my acrylic paints and I like to experiment with different things.”

Silzer and Mottus were two of the people who stopped by the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery Sunday afternoon for an artist trading card workshop put on by the Moose Jaw Art Guild.

“I love it,” said Mottus. “The trading’s fun.”

Art guild president Jean Bell said artist trading cards are similar to baseball trading cards. Each card is a miniature work of original art.

“It’s a way a person can have a piece of an artist’s work and they’re traded. They’re never bought or sold,” said Bell. “It’s not limited to artists. That’s the really wonderful thing about it. Anybody can do a work of art.”
