Ladies and gentlemen — your 2013 Mister Moose Jaw nominees.
Four courageous Moose Javians with hearts of gold are taking part in this year’s Mister Moose Jaw competition at the Mae Wilson Theatre on March 1.
The four nominees are known in the community for playing active roles with volunteerism and working on bettering the community.
“As part of being a nominee in the Mister Moose Jaw competition, each member must take part in raising at least $250 for the Relay for Life campaign,” organizer Doris Dunphy told the Times-Herald. “They are great guys, doing a great thing for the community and we’re going to put on a great show with entertainment.”
Here are the nominees in alphabetical order:
Riley Billy — Billy is an employee with Casino Moose Jaw, is a lover of golf and donates time coaching youth soccer. He is a fan of barbecuing and has been hailed as the rib champ of Casino Moose Jaw. Billy says people call him a George Lopez look-alike due to his salt and pepper hair.
Capt. Renaud Durand –– Durand is an aerospace engineer at 15 Wing. He's a sports fan and likes to stay active. His passions include science and engineering. Durand likes to have a clear view in mind and is always looking into new concepts in the areas of engineering and science technology. He is also involved with the Bushell Park Committee.
John Paul Hickie –– Hickie is program director at Diversified Services and likes to stay active in the community. You can find Hickie enjoying a game of slow-pitch in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter. He recently celebrated his 100th donation with Canadian Blood Services, and is heavily involved in the Saskatchewan film industry.
Wayne "Slim" Mitchell –– Back by popular demand, everyone’s favourite cowboy poet is known as owner of Mitchell Brothers Concrete and for being a part of the artistic community of Moose Jaw and southern Saskatchewan. Mitchell is well-known in the community for various donations and community activities.
Mister Moose Jaw 2013 is a fundraising event for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The event will begin Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Mae Wilson Theatre.
Tickets are $25 and are on sale at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre box office and Conexus Credit Union.
